The Clome Weekend Edit - A Mother Daughter Ski Escape to Banff
There is something about slipping into Banff for a quick 24 hours that resets everything.
The air feels different. Colder, cleaner. You step out of the car and immediately feel smaller in the best way. The mountains do that.
Chloe and I headed out for a simple overnight. No big agenda. Just skiing, a quiet hotel, hot tub steam in cold air, and dinner somewhere warm after a full day outside.
We spent the day at Sunshine Village, and somewhere between the first lift ride and the last run down, I was reminded that she is not the little skier tucked in behind me anymore. She skis fast. Strong. Technically far beyond me at this point. I am following her line now, not the other way around. What gets me most is how patient she is. Waiting at the bottom. Looking back. Giving me a quick nod before pushing off again.

After skiing we checked into Hotel Canoe & Suites and ordered matcha in the lobby while waiting for our room. Boots off. Hair undone. That in between moment when your legs are tired but your mind is calm. I like that the hotel sits just off the main strip. Banff can feel busy and loud, but being slightly removed makes it quieter at night. The details are thoughtful without being overdone. Pour over coffee from Sudden Sally Roasters in the room. Tea from Jolene’s, Rocky Mountain Soap Company in the shower which always feels like a win.

We went straight to the hot tub once we had keys. I packed my Left On Friday Sunday Suit in Cold Brew and it was exactly right for a mountain soak. Clean lines. Deep neutral. I always feel more put together in simple pieces. After, we changed into sweats and leaned into apres properly. Soft, neutral layers that feel relaxed but still intentional. I never want mountain style to feel accidental.

Dinner was at Hello Sunshine at the communal fireside table. We ended up beside skiers visiting from Australia who had lost their car keys somewhere on the mountain and came straight to dinner in boots with their skis still in hand. That is ski town energy. No one overly polished. Everyone slightly undone. We shared sushi and grilled chicken and it was perfect after a full day outside.

We wandered Banff Avenue after and I had the same thought I always have. So many global outdoor brands like Lululemon, Helly Hansen, Canada Goose, and Arc'teryx, but very few truly curated women’s boutiques. Lots of souvenirs. Lots of logos. It always makes me think about what could exist there instead.
Banff is busy. It is global. It is not undiscovered. But skiing behind your daughter while she waits for you at the bottom of a run changes everything. Amber lifts. Hot tub steam rising into cold air. Quiet coffee in the morning before the town wakes up. Twenty four hours felt like enough.
