Rugby Shirts Are Back: Nostalgia, Style, and the Ultimate Fall Staple
Rugby shirts are making a huge comeback this season, and I couldn’t be more excited. For me, they’ve always held a special place in my wardrobe, not just because they’re trendy, but because they’re tied to so many memories. Back in high school, my brother played rugby, and I used to steal his shirts any chance I got. They had that perfect oversized, worn-in feel, and something about the bold stripes and structured collar made me feel so put together, even when I was just borrowing his gear. It was like wearing a piece of a grown up world.
And then there’s the story of me and my best friend, both rocking matching rugby shirts from The Gap back in the early 2000’s. We loved twinning in them, and it became one of our staples. It was the ultimate comfort piece, one I reached for as easily as a classic button-down shirt. There’s just something about the rugby shirt that brings me back to that time — a little sporty, a little preppy, and full of nostalgia.
I think that’s part of what draws so many of us to certain styles: they’re not just clothes. They remind us of a different era, moments with friends, or even those carefree days when all that mattered was finding the perfect outfit for a weekend hangout. Rugby shirts bring all those feelings back for me — the ease of the early 2000’s, the coziness of fall, and the comfort of knowing exactly what makes you feel good.
If you're as nostalgic about rugby shirts as I am, you’ll want to check out the new drop from Wyeth by Jacie Duprie. Her take on this season’s rugby trend has that perfect blend of modern and timeless, with fresh updates on an old favorite.
